The challenge of this project was to research a sustainable material and introduce a new design inspired by and including that material. Bamboo charcoal is a very intriguing material with many passive benefits to indoor environments, including air purification, negative ion emission, and moisture regulation.
The inspired design utilizes raw bamboo to house the charcoal. It's porosity reflects the microscopic honeycomb structure of the charcoal and allows for greater circulation of air through the piece. It is intended to serve as a decorative but functional piece, the only maintenance being a monthly setting of the charcoal in sunlight.
